I recently completed my second Competent Communicator. What'd I get out of it, if anything?

A while back in 2007, I decided that if speaking slots were free at one of my TM clubs, I'd go ahead and do a speech to get some impromptu practice. Since I prefer to get some credit and move toward DCP (distinguished club program) goals, I started a new CC. On Monday the 7th of April, I finished that new set, finishing this CC in less than five months' time. Admittedly, three of those speeches were my contest speech (edited each time), but again, getting credit.

I am a little worried though. Sure, impromptu practice is good, but I haven't gotten started on my next manuals, and I feel like I'm slacking off when it comes to more prepared speeches. While I do have more confidence in speaking off the cuff, it's also turning into a bad habit: "Eh, I can talk about whatever, who cares". Although I got a lot of impromptu practice, I don't consider myself very skilled at it. My problem is I'm expecting myself to have the same level of quality that a prepared speech would have, but I know that's not going to happen.

I have a few articles in the hopper for here; these might turn into some of those prepared speeches, but we'll see. Not too much else to report on; I wasn't able to go to the division level contest, but I'm signed up to be at the district conference. We'll see how that goes; last year's was downtown and I didn't care for it. This one is much closer to home, which is great.
